Maternity Poses with Grandparents

Grandparents Included in Maternity Session

TIPS FOR POSING PARENTS-TO-BE WITH THEIR PARENTS

It is a super exciting time in the grandparents’ lives to see their own babies having babies. I love when couples chose to include their own parents in a maternity session! If are wondering WHYYY is there not more maternity posing cues out there that include grandparents?? Well, I agree and I want to help you. I tried different poses so you don’t have to and I have included my favorites.

WHY INCLUDE GRANDPARENTS IN A MATERNITY SESSION?

It takes a village to raise a baby and grandparents can be a huge part of that! Just before a baby arrives is a transformative time for the whole family and including grandparents in a photo session is a great way to capture these memories.

1. EMBRACE THE PARENTS-TO-BE

Have the grandparents hug the couple and have grandma place her hand on mom’s belly. This is pose is a fantastic way to capture the love across generations.

2. GRANDPARENTS HOLDING THEIR GRANDBABY (AKA THE BUMP)

This pose is best with just mom and the grandparents. Have the grandparents place their hands on moms bump. This creates an adorable pose and if the grandparents are lucky, they might even feel the baby kick!

3. WHISPER ONE THING YOU HOPE BABY GETS FROM MOM

Have the grandparents keep their hands on mom’s belly and ask them to squat down to bump height and whisper one thing each they hope the baby gets from their mama! This a fun and interactive pose that will ensue emotion shines through in the photo.

4. FORMAL PORTRAIT TO BE PASSED FROM GERNERATION TO GERNERATION

The most timeless pose is a formal portrait. Place the expected mother and grandmother in the middle and their partners by their side. Have mom hold her belly with her outer arm and have dad link his arm through. On the other side, have grandma hold mom’s hand and keep her other arm down. Have grandpa hold on to grandma’s arm and you will have the perfect shot!

5. HOLD HANDS AND WALK

This classic cue is a way to get a natural looking candid photo. You can use this cue for your clients to walk towards the camera or away from the camera to add variety.

THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN INCLUDING GRANDPARENTS IN MATERNITY SESSIONS

Every family is unique! It is important to adjust these poses based on the family dynamic and mom’s comfortability level with her belly being touched by her partner and parents. Most of all, relax and have fun! These are precious moments that will be treasured by generations to come.
